Summary
Network traces showed that Allied Capital was only utilizing six to 10 percent of its network capacity, even when performing large-scale backup transfers. Riverbed Steelhead® appliances were able to accelerate Allied's key applications across the WAN by 35 times and enable the consolidation of file servers into one location, reducing IT expenditures and administrative costs.
Allied saw acceleration performance gains almost immediately. The average file transfer time was reduced from almost three minutes to about five seconds. There was also significant performance increases in email downloads and CRM access. With Riverbed, the average network utilization jumped from around eight percent to 77 percent.
