Riverbed Whitewater Appliances Hold “Astounding Promise” for Architectural Firm with Vast Quantities of Data

Summary:
By law, Gensler must store its design data for periods of 15 to 20 years. With more than four terabytes of data that must be archived each year, the company’s two mirrored optical drive systems represented a risk of obsolescence. After deciding to move its archived data to the public cloud (Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) from Amazon Web Services) and implementing Whitewater cloud storage gateways, Gensler was able reduce the amount of data storage needed by 50 percent, reducing the ongoing cloud storage expenses and creating a viable storage plan for the future. The Whitewater appliances also optimize the transfer of the archival data to AWS, delivering four- to nearly five-fold bandwidth utilization increases, which reduces the impact of the archiving process on Gensler’s Internet connections.
