Summary
Greenhill & Co. is a leading global investment banking firm that provides services for mergers and acquisitions, financial restructuring, and merchant banking. Its staff of 160 in four offices around the world have advised on more than $300 billion in transactions.
While attempting to consolidate its email systems, they discovered that Exchange 2003 performed poorly over the WAN and was extremely bandwidth intensive. Using the Exchange caching mode only masked the underlying problems. In addition, its consolidation project, application performance problems, data sprawl, reliability issues, latency issues, and data security challenges, Greenhill decided to implement Riverbed Steelhead appliances to optimize the WAN.
After installing Steelhead, Greenhill was able to streamline its systems by eliminating redundant technology in branch offices, particularly smaller offices that do not have onsite technical support. Greenhill was also able to eliminate additional servers that might have otherwise been required as well as lower expenses by reducing their main DS3 link to a T1 link.
