缓存
应用独立性
与缓存不同，Riverbed 的 Steelhead® 设备是个独立的应用。缓存存储客户未来可能请求的对象副本，从而做到不发送相同的数据。缺点是缓存只在特定的应用内工作。因此文件缓存仅 有助于对同一文件的请求，并不能对 Web 流量、电子邮件、备份、ERP 应用和任何其他类型的流量有所帮助。
安全与高性能
缓存存储源服务器数据的副本，而并不是最初的数据。因此，对于任何缓存的数据都有一个关于安全性与性能的基本问题。在客户完全确定被请求数据是没有过期的最新数据后，操作才是安全的。使用 Steelhead 设备，数据永远不会过期，因为每个客户请求都通过服务器，而客户收到的数据总是最新的。
易于部署
缓存是源服务器的代理，因此必须配置客户端才能了解代理服务器。与缓存不同，Steelhead 设备不是代理服务器，因此客户端绝对不需要配置，只需访问服务器。Steelhead 设备透明地执行全部优化。
