Riverbed Touts Solutions for IT Consolidation at Storage Decisions Conference

Company to Show Conference Attendees Approaches for Creating the Server-less Branch Office

San Francisco, CA, September 19, 2008 – Riverbed Technology (Nasdaq: RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), today announced its participation at Storage Decisions taking place September 23 – 25 at the Hilton New York in New York City. Storage Decisions is a three-day conference that will delve in-depth into the practical application of "new" technologies and concepts – as well as provide the latest tips and advice on more traditional storage technology and practices. At its booth (#102), Riverbed® will provide attendees with IT consolidation approaches to improve asset utilization, operational efficiency and business agility, while helping to control IT costs and ensure end-user satisfaction.

To address the ever-changing enterprise environment that is simultaneously increasing the amount of data and amount of distance between the workforce, Riverbed introduced the Riverbed Services Platform (RSP), an extensible data services platform that enables the delivery of virtualized edge services without the need to deploy additional physical servers at remote or branch offices. The RSP, which will be virtualized by VMware, allows customers to deploy best-of-breed services from a number of vendors on Steelhead® appliances in a self-contained partition to minimize the hardware infrastructure footprint at the branch office. Services currently available for deployment on the RSP include streaming media, print services, and DNS/DHCP/IPAM. These services formerly required dedicated servers.

Customers can deploy these virtual appliances directly on Steelhead products to further minimize the hardware infrastructure footprint at the branch office. Riverbed Steelhead appliances help enterprises dramatically speed up collaboration and move data across VMware environments, while at the same time allowing them to centralize and consolidate IT resources – all without sacrificing performance.

"Our customers are constantly looking for solutions that reduce their IT footprint. Reducing the infrastructure at branch offices has been an approach that makes a significant impact on the bottom line," said Alan Saldich, vice president of marketing and alliances at Riverbed. "Through our partnership with VMware, customers will be able to consolidate their IT infrastructures even further at branch offices by running up to five services in a virtual partition within the Steelhead appliance – ultimately creating a server-less branch office."
