Leading Analyst Firm Identifies Riverbed as Market Share Leader in Q2 2007

Riverbed Named Advanced WOC Market Share Leader for 4th Quarter in a Row

San Francisco, CA — November 20, 2007 — Riverbed Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), today announced that Gartner has identified the company in its recently announced report, "Market Share: Application Acceleration Equipment, Worldwide 2Q07" 1 as the Advanced WOC (WAN optimization controller) market share leader for the second quarter in 2007 based on revenue. According to Gartner’s market share report, Riverbed® sustained very strong growth to maintain its lead (30.6% share). This is the 4th quarter in a row that Riverbed has maintained the leadership position in the Advanced WOC category. In the same report, Gartner recognized Riverbed as the market share leader in the WOC category for the 2nd quarter in a row.

“In my opinion, our strong performance is based on our ability to provide enterprises with a comprehensive solution that solves the application performance over WANs problem at all three pain points:  the data center, the remote office, and the mobile worker,” said Eric Wolford, senior vice president, marketing and business development at Riverbed. “The solutions that enterprises are looking to deploy need to deliver the speed, scale, security, and simplicity they require. Unlike the alternatives, Riverbed delivers WDS solutions for the data center, remote office, and mobile workers that accelerate the broad set of applications important to business—without sacrificing the security of enterprise data.”

In order to address these three pain points, Riverbed provides both hardware- and client-based solutions.  For remote offices and data centers, Riverbed offers its Steelhead® appliance product family. Powered by the Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS™), Riverbed’s patented software platform, Steelhead appliances deliver enterprise-class WDS that scales across a range of applications and network topologies to accelerate applications by up to 100 times.

Riverbed released its Steelhead Mobile product, a software client version of its award-winning WDS technology, in August 2007. The Steelhead Mobile software client is intended to deliver LAN-like application performance to any employee, whether on the road, working from home or connected wirelessly in the office. In addition, on October 22, Riverbed announced the 4.1 version of RiOS and a new Steelhead appliance model targeted at the data center. The enhancements in RiOS 4.1 and the new Steelhead appliance model 6120 build on Riverbed’s work with over 3,000 customers to solve the application performance and IT control dilemma that CIOs face as they confront the competing demands of an increasingly distributed workforce and the need to protect and control data.

As part of the October release, Riverbed delivered application-specific optimization for large-scale data transfers, that includes both hardware and software components. The new functionality enables adaptive acceleration based on the size and type of the data to be transferred. This dynamically-enabled acceleration is an industry first that automatically recognizes disaster recovery operations, such as data replication and backup jobs, to achieve even faster performance for large-scale data transfers.

The encrypt-to-disk functionality in RiOS 4.1 builds on Riverbed’s ability to accelerate SSL across the WAN without compromising the security trust model, and its existing support for site-to-site VPNs and site-to-site IPSEC option. This combination of functionality gives Riverbed customers the industry’s only WDS solution that preserves end-to-end security.
