RIVERBED TECHNOLOGY LAUNCHES ASIA PACIFIC OPERATIONS

Makes Strategic Commitment to the World’s Fastest Growing Regional Market

Singapore — March 1, 2005— Riverbed Technology, the performance leader in application acceleration on wide area networks, today announced the launch of its operations in the Asia Pacific region and the opening of their regional headquarters in Singapore. Riverbed has plans to open several offices in the Asia Pacific region shortly, including sites in China, India and Australia.

Riverbed is growing its staff in the region led by John Higgs, Managing Director, Asia-Pacific. Mr. Higgs joined Riverbed in 2004, and has close to twenty years experience in IT sales and marketing operations in Asia - primarily with Cisco, Cabletron, and Cray Communications where he established and headed the operations in South Asia, Asia Pacific and Japan respectively.

Mr. Higgs states “I am extremely excited to be part of Riverbed. We are delivering real solutions that directly benefit our customers throughout Asia, and deliver immediate return on investment. IT architects are simply astounded by the performance of our Steelhead appliances. It is a solution that is fundamentally changing the ground rules of what is possible with wide area networks and network design by removing the traditional restrictions caused by limited bandwidth and inefficient networking and application protocols”.

Riverbed’s Steelhead™ appliances improve the performance of applications over wide area networks (WANs) by up to 100 times. Multi-national companies in Asia are especially susceptible to application performance problems on WANs because of the high cost of bandwidth; the very high latency inherent in satellite and transoceanic networks that severely degrades the throughput of applications. Riverbed’s multi-layer, patent-pending optimizations are the only WAN acceleration solutions that address all the aspects of application performance in one appliance: Steelhead appliances remove all redundant traffic from any application running over TCP which typically reduces WAN traffic by 60% to 95%. They also optimize the behavior of TCP in high latency environments which will improve the performance of web applications, FTP, Lotus Notes and other similar applications. Lastly, Steelhead appliances have incremental application-specific optimizations for Microsoft Windows and Exchange.

Riverbed also announced two upcoming seminars in Asia: one in Singapore and one in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Singapore seminar will be held on March 1st at 10:30 AM at the Pines on Stevens Road (formerly Pine Tree Club); the seminar in Kuala Lumpur will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel at 10.30 AM on March 3. The seminars are being held in conjunction with Riverbed’s partner in Singapore, D-Synergy Tech Systems pte ltd (www.d-synergy.com). Presentations will be given by Dr. Mark Day, Riverbed’s Chief Scientist, along with Doreen Sim, Managing Director of D-Synergy. Dr. Day joined Riverbed from Cisco systems in 2004, and will be giving an overview of Riverbed’s products and technology.

Doreen Sim, a well-known face in technology sales and marketing in the region says; “Riverbed is one of those companies that come along once in a decade. Their equipment delivers the kind of performance that our customers really benefit from. They rely increasingly on the Internet for interoffice cooperation, compliance and backups and that has been putting pressure on their wide area networks. Riverbed arrives here just at the right time.” One example of Riverbed’s early customers in Asia is a global manufacturer of consumer electronics, household appliances, computers, network equipment and communications systems based in Korea. This company has deployed almost one hundred Steelhead appliances throughout the world to interconnect their remote offices and improve the performance of applications on their global WAN.

Another key customer with operations in Asia is Gensler Architecture, Design & Planning Worldwide (www.gensler.com). Gensler has deployed Steelhead appliances in 27 offices worldwide, including their offices in Tokyo and in Shanghai where Gensler is working on projects like the Nan Jing Road West Master Plan. According to Gensler’s CTO, Bruce Bartolf, “Steelhead appliances enable Gensler’s architects worldwide to collaborate on the Shanghai projects as if they were all working at the company’s San Francisco headquarters.”
