NEC TO LICENSE AND RESELL RIVERBED'S AWARD-WINNING WDS SOLUTION
San Francisco, CA — June 6, 2006 — Riverbed Technology, Inc. announced today that the company has signed a strategic OEM agreement with NEC Corporation (NASDAQ: NIPNY) in which NEC will license and resell Riverbed’s wide-area data services (WDS) solution, the Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS™). NEC will combine RiOS with its server product line and sell the offering under its new WanBooster™ product family name.
WanBooster based on RiOS is a network appliance deployed in remote offices and in corporate data centers. RiOS accelerates enterprise applications typically by five to 50 times and in some cases up to 100 times between enterprise datacenters and remote offices. These performance improvements allow companies to simplify IT infrastructure and consolidate remote office IT, optimize WAN bandwidth and accelerate data replication and backup for disaster recovery.
“We evaluated all of the WAN acceleration vendors and verified the performance of each for a wide variety of applications,” said Masato Yamamoto, computer software business director. “After this thorough selection process, we chose to partner with Riverbed, which we judged as the best partner.”

The WanBooster products are expected to be generally available on August 1, 2006.
