Riverbed Launches Technology Alliance with Leading Application and Infrastructure Vendors

Partners Integrate Steelhead WDS Appliances to Enhance Solutions

San Francisco, CA — August 15, 2006 — Riverbed Technology, Inc. announced today the launch of the Riverbed Technology Alliance (RTA). The RTA is composed of member companies whose solutions benefit from the optimizations provided by Riverbed’s Steelhead® wide-area data services (WDS) appliances. The RTA enables members to broadly leverage a relationship with the company by marketing a Riverbed-enhanced solution to their customer bases. Through this program, partners are able to offer a solution that integrates WDS technology, and differentiates their offering from competitors. Some of the initial members of the RTA include DoubleTake, EqualLogic, Isilon and SEPATON.

“Vendors who sell enterprise application, network or storage solutions can benefit from partnering with Riverbed,” said Alan Saldich, vice president of product marketing at Riverbed®. “Our Steelhead WDS appliances optimize all TCP applications, which include traffic generated by complementary vendors.  We’re honored to launch our alliance with key partners.”

EqualLogic, a leading data storage vendor focusing on iSCSI storage area networks (SANs) and data protection, optimizes its disaster protection capabilities by partnering with Riverbed.  “Comprehensive disaster recovery requires not only enterprise-class data protection capabilities within a SAN, but also efficient transfer of data between recovery sites,” said John Joseph, vice president of marketing at EqualLogic. “Riverbed’s award-winning WDS technology, coupled with our market-leading SAN solution, gives customers an all-inclusive best-of-breed data management solution that combines storage consolidation, backup and recovery, and disaster protection.”

Businesses are increasingly decentralizing their operations, creating an opportunity for technology vendors to jointly deliver solutions to optimize customers’ application and data performance over wide area networks (WANs). Customers’ WAN deployments require that large amounts of traffic traverse their WANs between remotes sites, which makes application performance over the WAN a critical component of business success.

“Partnering with Riverbed is particularly beneficial because the adoption of new applications often meets with resistance in branch offices due to poor application performance, which reduces their usability,” continued Saldich. “Our Steelhead appliances can make application rollouts easier, faster and more successful.”

Under the RTA, Riverbed ensures the interoperability of the Steelhead appliance with the respective products of RTA members and verifies that Riverbed’s Steelhead WDS appliances improve the performance of their solutions. The companies then go to market with a jointly developed value proposition built around a combined technology solution that provides even greater performance to the industry.

“We had already deployed DoubleTake for our backup solution, and when we installed our Steelhead appliances the time to replicate the server decreased from four hours to only five minutes,” said Chris France, CIO at Little Diversified Architectural Consulting.  “In addition, our overall WAN traffic was reduced by 67%.”
