Independent Research Firm Cites Riverbed as a Leader In WAN Optimization

San Francisco, CA — July 23, 2007 — Riverbed Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: RVBD) was among the select companies that Forrester invited to participate in its July 20, 2007 Forrester Wave report, WAN Optimization Appliances, Q3 2007. According to Forrester's report, "Riverbed and its Steelhead appliance is the clear Leader of the WAN optimization market."

The report goes on to state that Riverbed "has a top-notch product, and it will continue to expand on its strategy as the best standalone optimization vendor." In Forrester's evaluation, Riverbed was also cited as a Leader based on its "demonstrated early innovation in the most critical optimization techniques like caching, data de-duplication, and advanced compression."

Riverbed's Steelhead WDS appliances address the issues that affect application performance over the wide area network (WAN), improving the throughput of applications enterprises rely on every day – including file sharing, email, backup, document management systems, and IT tools, as well as ERP and CRM solutions.

"By positioning Riverbed as a leader in its Forrester Wave: WAN Optimization Appliances, Q3 2007 report, Forrester has recognized our pioneering innovative WAN optimization technologies," said Jerry Kennelly, president and CEO of Riverbed. "Riverbed has already enabled 2,000 customers to change the way they work, and we look forward to extending our position as a leader by helping global workforces continue to collaborate as if they were next door to one another."

In the report, which included past research by Forrester, vendors were weighed against 65 criteria in the high-level categories of "Current offering," "Strategy," and "Market presence." Forrester concluded that "Riverbed has the strongest overall current offering, including the strongest score for optimization techniques."

Additionally, in the vendor summary, Riverbed is noted as having "...maintained its innovation by delivering additional capabilities like SSL decryption and one of the best central management consoles."
