Summary
The IRC is a 75-year-old non-profit that focuses on refugee issues. They have 10,000 staff members located in 42 countries throughout the world. In places like Africa, where satellite-based communication is the only way to go, IT was far from a reliable and dependable resource. They needed help and turned to Riverbed.
Riverbed’s WAN optimization solution was an ideal fit for the IRC’s low-bandwidth, high-latency environments. After installing Steelhead appliances, they were able to dramatically reduce their WAN costs. Specifically, they saw a 75 percent reduction in WAN traffic, a 65 percent reduction in HTTP traffic, a 45 percent reduction in MAPI traffic, and a 99 percent reduction in SMTP traffic.
