Summary

Leica Geosystems helps professionals worldwide capture, analyze, and present spatial information. The company has more than 3,500 employees in 50 offices and 28 countries, and manages a growing number of small, global offices. Each of the new global offices required two servers, but this IT strategy was too expensive. Leica Geosystems decided to consolidate their IT infrastructure into three data centers and consulted with Riverbed to help them with its strategy.

After deploying 21 Steelhead appliances to 20 offices, Leica Geosystems saw download times reduce by 30 percent. Users could access applications from the branch offices as quickly as if they were working on a LAN. Originally, the company had two servers at each branch location, but after installing Steelhead, these local servers were no longer required. This saved Leica Geosystems from purchasing and managing 20 to 30 servers, a substantial annual cost.
