Summary
Silicon Image provides robust, high-bandwidth semiconductors in the global PC/display, consumer electronics, and storage arenas. When Silicon Image employees experienced performance issues sharing large amounts of data across the WAN, the company explored various options. After a thorough vetting process, Silicon Image deployed Steelhead appliances from Riverbed.
Silicon Image’s IT staff managed the remote deployment and configuration of Steelhead appliances from Riverbed, typically with a single phone call. The cost savings were significant, especially compared to the cost of implementing a bandwidth upgrade – about three to four times more expensive than deploying the Steelhead appliances, according to Ayers. And because of the Riverbed solution’s ease-of-use, the overall cost of deployment, configuration, and maintenance was low.
