Riverbed and Amazon Web Services have collaborated to deliver cloud solutions to enterprise customers. Riverbed has just announced two new products for the public cloud, Cloud Steelhead and Whitewater. Cloud Steelhead extends Riverbed's market-leading WAN optimization to a solution purpose-built on Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) environments. The Riverbed Whitewater appliance is a cloud storage accelerator that secures, optimizes, and accelerates backup and recovery directly to Amazon's S3 cloud storage.

Riverbed Steelhead appliances have passed rigorous EMC E-Lab testing to receive certification for the use of WAN optimization technology for EMC SRDF/A asynchronous replication. This gives customers a market-leading solution for accelerated SAN replication and disaster recovery. Riverbed has also joined the EMC Select program, enabling EMC to resell Steelhead appliances that are uniquely configured for optimizing SRDF/A environments.

Riverbed and Microsoft have entered into a global partnership that spans several key Microsoft product lines. Using Riverbed’s WAN optimization products, for example, Microsoft customers can accelerate Microsoft SharePoint and Exchange over the WAN. Riverbed has also licensed Microsoft Windows Server 2008 for integration on the Steelhead appliance through the Riverbed Services Platform (RSP).

Network Appliance (NetApp) is a world leader in unified storage solutions for today’s data-intensive enterprise. To provide maximum protection and ease of management, many enterprises choose to perform SnapMirror operations across the WAN. However, WAN links are often costly. Furthermore, the performance of SnapMirror is often severely degraded by the limited bandwidth and high network latency typical of a WAN. Lab tests show that Steelhead appliances significantly improve the performance of SnapMirror over the WAN. Cold-mirror backup is up to 30 percent faster, while warm-mirror backup or recovery is as much as 45 times faster. By deploying Riverbed in conjunction with SnapMirror, customers benefit from more efficient mirror operations, more frequent updates, and increased speed in disaster recovery operations over low bandwidth links.

SAP and Riverbed Technology have partnered to deliver best-of-breed WAN optimization and Business Management Solutions on a single device: the Riverbed® Steelhead® appliance. The Vyatta software implements a complete routing and security feature set that run on standard x86 hardware and in virtual machines.
