San Francisco—August 19, 2014— Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the leader in application performance infrastructure, today announced that Aura Light, a Swedish lighting manufacturer, is using Riverbed® SteelHead™, the #1 WAN optimization solution, to further its centralized application strategy by accelerating key enterprise applications such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) for 250 employees throughout Europe. Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, sustainable lighting company Aura Light has 250 employees at a manufacturing facility in Sweden and subsidiaries and local sales offices in many European countries. To improve IT manageability, Aura Light centralized all of its applications to an outsourced data center several years ago. Centralization, however, dramatically slowed the performance of certain applications to the point that they were nearly unusable at some remote sites.
"I wanted to look at the root of the problem and fix that," said Peter Lindgren, who took on the role of IT manager at Aura Light after the centralization project was completed. "One option was to add more systems to the Citrix farm but I wanted to get away from that and just focus on the issue that was affecting the users. And I wanted to create a stage that would allow us to implement new systems, whatever they are, and have them work well right away."
Lindgren turned to Riverbed with support from Curitiba, a Riverbed channel partner in Sweden, to configure and install six SteelHead appliances at remote sites and seven in the data center. Aura Light also purchased 50 SteelHead Mobile software licenses to give its sales teams the same high level of application performance that office workers experience.
Users in remote locations now access mission-critical and everyday applications in about half the time. The change means less frustration and higher productivity for everyone. Moreover, Aura Light achieved these benefits at a low cost by renegotiating the company's network bandwidth contract for 35% less. "Using Riverbed resulted in happier users and higher performance, and we were able to cover a large portion of the cost by reducing what we pay the WAN supplier," said Lindgren.
The SteelHead solution has eliminated employees' concerns with centralized software, allowing Aura Light to take advantage of enterprise applications such as SuperOffice CRM. It also provides Aura Light with a foundation for the future. Previously, Lindgren felt his technology choices were constrained by poor application performance over the WAN. "Now I have the freedom to implement new solutions for the business, such as a new ERP system, knowing the speed will be fine." Lindgren added, "We had been saying to employees, 'Things will get better,' but they never did, until we put in SteelHead."
