Reduced costs through consolidation

Overview

The oldest pharmaceutical and chemical company worldwide, Merck has 32,000 employees working in 242 locations in 61 countries. The company, which produces innovative prescription drugs and over-the-counter products, was challenged to provide global teams with a data exchange and communication system that would improve application performance across the WAN to LAN-like speeds.

In the end, they teamed with Orange Business Services and Riverbed Technology to deploy 104 Riverbed Steelhead® appliances worldwide. The result was an immediate speed increase of 70-90 percent for most applications across the WAN. Merck also achieved greater transparency on a global level, reduced costs through consolidation, and avoided investments in unnecessary bandwidth upgrades.

Merck leverages Riverbed® and Orange to achieve up to 90 percent bandwidth optimization and visibility across the network.
