New Riverbed SaaS Accelerator Solves the SaaS Performance Problem
More and more business applications live in the cloud. Whether CRM apps, Microsoft Office 365, or homegrown solutions, SaaS is the fastest-growing area of enterprise software by a long shot. In fact, 73% of organizations say over 80%of their apps will be SaaS by 2020, according to The 2017 State of the SaaS-Powered Workplace Report. But while these applications run in the cloud, performance is as important as ever.
The new Riverbed SaaS Accelerator is purpose-built to facilitate fast, agile, secure delivery of SaaS applications to any user, anywhere, ensuring even the most far-flung and mobile employees stay productive and business continues apace.
The need for SaaS application performance is clear
Slow SaaS applications reduce workforce productivity and significantly impact organizations’ ability to execute in highly competitive markets. Here's a worrisome number: ESG (Enterprise Strategy Group) recently surveyed 200 enterprises about their SaaS usage patterns, and a full 42% reported that at least half of their distributed or international workers suffer consistently poor performance of their SaaS apps.
And these apps are the lifeblood of day-to-day business. It's been challenging for enterprise IT organizations to feel like they have control over the performance of applications in the cloud. Now that a capable solution is at hand, it's time to stem this ongoing leak of expense and productivity.
Initial supported SaaS applications
Riverbed SaaS Accelerator will support an initial set of popular SaaS applications at launch, including Office 365, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Box, and Veeva.
Going forward, Riverbed will continually add support for additional SaaS applications, and the flexible nature of SaaS Accelerator's technology, which is itself delivered as a service, will allow support for new apps to roll out relatively quickly.
How Riverbed SaaS Accelerator works
The Riverbed SaaS Accelerator offering is very flexible, able to accelerate SaaS to any user, anywhere — not just limited to branch offices. All that’s required is any SteelHead endpoint running in a branch offices and/or SteelHead Mobile on a mobile device, either of which will then connect the user to SaaS Accelerator in the cloud. Once those requirements are in place, the solution takes care of all the details so there's no need to configure anything on the SaaS provider's end. It's easy for IT to spin up, whether for select users or everyone in the enterprise.
The end-user outcome? Increased performance by up to 33x, and up to 99% reduction of bandwidth usage. Not to mention an optimal human experience that leads to happy, productive users.
SaaS Accelerator is delivered as a service and has an OPEX payment model based on concurrent end users on a global scale. This model offers maximum convenience, flexibility, and affordability for the global enterprise. Organizations can purchase AppUnits (similar to tokens at an arcade), and allocate them (or reallocate, as desired) to accelerate specific applications.
The security posture of many enterprise organizations requires backhauling all SaaS traffic through a central data center. This increases travel distance to the cloud, which leads to a strong possibility of reduced end-user performance. SaaS Accelerator supports this common use case as well, maintaining the security posture while largely ameliorating any performance penalty incurred by backhauling SaaS traffic.
