Stingray on AWS

Moving your applications to AWS brings new opportunities for business to grow and reach new markets, but to be successful you need to look at how your applications will scale reliably and securely. Amazon ELB serves as a basic web service load balancer, and distributes transactions across a dynamic pool of Amazon EC2 compute resources.

Thousands of customers have found that they need to do much more than just load balancing. With Stingray Traffic Manager, you can improve availability, increase performance, and scale your application at the same time. This is what Stingray can do for you:

  • Local Load Balancing: Ensure application availability, even across Amazon availability zones (AZ)
  • Global Load Balancing: Balance across Amazon, multiple clouds, and your private data center
  • SSL Offload: Accelerate SSL handling and cut server utilization by 1/3rd in many cases
  • Caching and Compression: Deliver a faster user experience and cut bandwidth costs by 20-40%
  • Stingray Aptimizer integration helps load webpages up to four times faster
  • Stingray App Firewall integration protects against a broad range of web application attacks

Stingray Traffic Manager is the only full-featured ADC available in AWS today

Stingray Traffic Manager is designed to seamlessly integrate with any application deployed on Amazon Web Services to provide load balancing, user experience optimization, application scalability, and fine-grained application control. Stingray Traffic Manager becomes a key component of your application infrastructure, and provides many traffic management features that are not available with traditional load balancers, including:

Speed

Accelerate services, increase capacity, and reduce costs by offloading performance-draining tasks such as SSL and compression onto Stingray Traffic Manager optimized implementations. Administrators can also cache commonly requested content and optimize traffic delivery to applications so they’ll run as fast as they would in a perfect benchmark environment.

Reliability

Improve application availability by intelligently load balancing traffic either locally or globally, avoiding failed or degraded servers, monitoring performance problems, and shaping traffic spikes.

Web Content Optimization

Accelerate web content by a combination of file and script merging and image optimizations for fewer round trips between browser and web server. Stingray Aptimizer (optional) delivers “just-in-time” acceleration for web content served out to users across networks regardless of access device or browser used.

Improved Security

Gain full control over how traffic is internally routed and use high-performance inspection to verify any part of a request or response to apply global filtering or scrubbing policies. Stingray Traffic Manager operates as a deny-all gateway, admitting only the traffic types for which it has been configured. Stingray™ Application Firewall (optional) also protects against a broad range of web application attacks, such as SQL injection, cross- site scripting, session hijacking, and other threats.

More Stingray Traffic Manager capabilities on AWS

In addition to the capabilities described above, Stingray Traffic Manager on Amazon Web Services provides traffic management features that are not available with traditional load balancers, such as:

  • Advanced session persistence of non-HTTP/HTTPS applications
  • Application availability and latency monitoring
  • Content-based routing decisions
  • Incoming and outgoing request/response traffic manipulation
  • Balancing of TCP traffic on any port
  • Instance draining (to prepare it for clean removal)
