Chief Executive Officer
Rich McBee was appointed President and CEO of Riverbed Technology in October 2019. McBee brings more than 30 years of experience holding top leadership roles driving market expansion, revenue growth and operations excellence at a range of technology companies.
Prior to joining Riverbed, McBee served as President and CEO for Mitel, leading strategy, business performance and worldwide execution where he transformed the company into a leading global provider of cloud communications. Previously, McBee served as President of the Communications and Enterprise Group of Danaher Corporation. In this role, he was responsible for annual sales derived from carrier, enterprise, and SMB markets via both direct sales and channel partners. McBee joined Danaher in 2007 when they acquired Tektronix Communications, where he has worked since 1998 in a variety of leadership positions including: Senior Vice President and General Manager, Communications Business Unit; Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Service and Marketing; and Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Initiatives.
McBee holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the Chapman School of Business and Economics and graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in 1986.
Chief Operating Officer
Dan Smoot is Chief Operating Officer for Riverbed Technology where he leads the company’s Worldwide Sales, Sales Operations, and Partner Channel programs, in addition to all Customer Success functions, including customer care, delivery of global support and professional services. Smoot is responsible for Riverbed’s global sales and partner strategy focusing on the customer’s journey and their success, while ensuring they receive outstanding value and performance from their technology investments. He is also responsible for global support and renewals, professional services, education and customer success management. Smoot is focused on the customer lifecycle strategy in order to drive long-term partnerships with both Riverbed customers and channel to deliver exceptional experiences and services. He joined Riverbed in June 2018 and was promoted to COO in September 2019.
Prior to his current role, Smoot was Executive Vice President of Global Partner Sales at Salesforce where he managed the worldwide partner sales organization, with an annual contract value target of $2.1B. He was also Executive Vice President of Market Readiness at Salesforce where he created a global organization to deliver critical go-to-market operations. Prior to Salesforce, Smoot worked at VMware as Senior Vice President of Global Customer Operations where he oversaw global services and renewals, global channels and alliances, OEM sales and go-to-market strategy. Before VMware, he spent more than 10 years in a variety of senior leadership roles at Cisco.
Smoot holds a B.A. in Environmental Science from the University of California, Irvine.
Chief Financial Officer
Ian Halifax is Chief Financial Officer at Riverbed Technology, responsible for all aspects of accounting, finance, tax and treasury. Halifax brings immense experience to Riverbed, having held CFO roles at multiple public and private companies, and has
substantial operational, mergers and acquisitions, and capital-raising expertise.
Prior to joining Riverbed, Halifax served as CFO at ON24, a cloud-based marketing intelligence and demand generation platform. He also held public company CFO roles at: Macrovision (now TiVo), Micromuse, Wind River Systems and Tintri. Halifax has held private company CFO roles at Host Analytics and Grass Valley. In the early part of his career, he held finance positions at Sun Microsystems and KPMG. He also spent time at IBM following its acquisition of Micromuse, and at Intel following its acquisition of Wind River Systems.
Halifax holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of York and an MBA from Henley Management College in the United Kingdom. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant.
Chief Marketing Officer
Subbu Iyer is Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President at Riverbed Technology. Iyer’s responsibilities span corporate marketing and communications, web/digital marketing, strategic and solutions marketing, channel marketing, demand generation and campaigns, and global field marketing.
He joins Riverbed from EMC, where he was Senior Vice President of Global Product Marketing and focused on storage, converged infrastructure, big data and hybrid cloud solutions. Previously, Iyer spent five years at HP Software in a variety of roles, including as a leader in HP’s Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) Business where he oversaw products, go-to-market and operations for a $1B software business. Before HP, he was CMO at OpenClovis (open source high availability and system management), and also held management positions at Oracle, VERITAS Software, and several startups in the software industry.
Iyer holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Lori Spence is Senior Vice President, Human Resources at Riverbed Technology. Spence’s responsibilities include all worldwide HR and operations for employees in 37 countries, including recruiting, human resources business partner activities, benefits and compensation, immigration, HR systems/shared services, and learning development.
Prior to joining Riverbed in 2010, she was VP of Human Resources at BenefitStreet, a privately held SaaS (Software as a Service) company that provided 401(k) recordkeeping and administration services. Spence has more than 25 years of experience in human resources, recruiting, training, organizational development, employee relations, change management and executive development. She has also held various senior human resources positions with Commerce One, Williams-Sonoma, PAPYRUS and Macy’s.
Spence has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.
CTO and Senior Vice President
Mike Sargent is CTO and Senior Vice President of Products and Solutions at the Aternity division at Riverbed Technology. Sargent is an experienced global technology executive with a history of transforming and optimizing business innovation, performance and growth. In his current role, Sargent leads the Riverbed SteelCentral business unit which offers solutions that bring together end-user monitoring, network performance management, and application performance management to provide end-to-end application performance visibility for today’s hybrid IT architectures. Sargent has held leadership positions with CA Technologies, Oliver Wyman and Bain & Company.
Chief Development Officer
Dante Malagrino is the Chief Development Officer at Riverbed Technology. He oversees the development and manufacturing of intelligent and software-defined Digital Networking solutions, including the market-leading SD-WAN, Application Acceleration and Network Performance Management product lines. Malagrino leads the development of innovative next-generation digital networking products that offer agility to customers across the globe – making the network as elastic and dynamic as the Cloud and helping organzations maximize digital performance.
Malagrino joined Riverbed in April 2018 as the engineering leader of the Digital Networking organization and was promoted to his current role in January 2019. He is an entrepreneur and general manager with a strong technical background, a passion for innovation, and operational experience in both start-ups and large company environments. Malagrino brings 20+ years of experience to Riverbed, including a long tenure at Cisco where he covered several roles in engineering, marketing and product management. He also founded and led Embrane, a leading SDN (Software-Defined Networking) company that was acquired by Cisco in 2015.
Malagrino holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in Italy.
Alpna J. Doshi
Chief Digital Officer
Alpna J, Doshi is the Chief Digital Officer at Riverbed Technology and an Operating Partner at Thoma Bravo. At Riverbed, Doshi is responsible for company’s business agility with an enterprise IT strategy and execution, as well as leading Riverbed’s global digital transformation, including state of art business process and overseeing business systems, technology and digital services for Riverbed and the Aternity division. Doshi has more than 27 years of global experience as an executive in the information technology, healthcare and telecommunications industries. She is widely recognized for her role in driving digitization, innovation and growth while implementing bold visions and ensuring that IT has a seat at the strategy table.
Previously, Doshi served as the Group CIO and Worldwide Digital Transformation leader of Royal Philips in the Netherlands where she spearheaded a transformation project that enabled the global digital backbone for the organization. Prior to that, she was CIO of Reliance Communications, leading diverse businesses shared services IT organization Reliance Tech Services, based in Mumbai, India.
Doshi is a highly respected international thought leader, has been a Board Director with TM Forum, held Governance council, Systems Integration Committee Chair roles, and presented at numerous global events. She was a CIO of the Year Award Nominee by ICT Media Europe in 2018.
Rebecca Hazard is General Counsel of Riverbed Technology and Corporate Secretary to the Riverbed Board of Directors. Hazard is responsible for all legal matters as well as trade compliance.
Previously, she served as Riverbed’s Vice President and Associate General Counsel, managing a global team of lawyers and legal professionals, responsible for commercial and technology transactions worldwide, including inbound and outbound licensing, channel sales agreements, privacy, outsourcing, OEM, and intellectual property matters. In private practice, Hazard was an attorney at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in the Technology & IP Transactions practice group where she focused on the acquisition, financing and sale of intellectual property and technology-focused businesses, including public and private acquisition and sale and licensing transactions.
Hazard holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College (cum laude) and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
