Chief Executive Officer
Rich McBee was appointed President and CEO of Riverbed Technology in October 2019. McBee brings more than 30 years of experience holding top leadership roles driving market expansion, revenue growth and operations excellence at a range of technology companies.
Prior to joining Riverbed, McBee served as President and CEO for Mitel, leading strategy, business performance and worldwide execution where he transformed the company into a leading global provider of cloud communications. Previously, McBee served as President of the Communications and Enterprise Group of Danaher Corporation. In this role, he was responsible for annual sales derived from carrier, enterprise, and SMB markets via both direct sales and channel partners. McBee joined Danaher in 2007 when they acquired Tektronix Communications, where he has worked since 1998 in a variety of leadership positions including: Senior Vice President and General Manager, Communications Business Unit; Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Service and Marketing; and Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Initiatives.
McBee holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the Chapman School of Business and Economics and graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in 1986.
Chief Operating Officer
Dan Smoot is Chief Operating Officer for Riverbed Technology where leads the company’s Worldwide Sales, Channels and Alliances, Sales Operations and Customer Success. He is responsible for Riverbed’s global sales, services and partner strategy focusing on the customers journey and their success, while ensuring they receive outstanding value and performance from their technology investments. He joined Riverbed in June 2018 and was promoted to COO in September 2019.
As a Strategic Operating Advisor at Thoma Bravo, Smoot helps portfolio companies achieve operational execution in sales, partner ecosystems and customer success with radical simplicity and focus.
Smoot was previously Executive Vice President of Global Partner Sales at Salesforce where he managed the worldwide partner sales organization. He was also Executive Vice President of Market Readiness at Salesforce where he created a global organization to deliver critical go-to-market operations. Prior to Salesforce, Smoot worked at VMware as Senior Vice President of Global Customer Operations where he oversaw advanced technology sales, global services, renewals, global channels and alliances, OEM/ISV sales and go-to-market strategy. Before VMware, he spent more than 12 years in a variety of senior leadership roles at Cisco.
Smoot holds a B.A. in Environmental Science from the University of California, Irvine.
Chief Financial Officer
Ian Halifax is Chief Financial Officer at Riverbed Technology, responsible for all aspects of accounting, finance, tax and treasury. Halifax brings immense experience to Riverbed, having held CFO roles at multiple public and private companies, and has substantial operational, mergers and acquisitions, and capital-raising expertise.
Prior to joining Riverbed, Halifax served as CFO at ON24, a cloud-based marketing intelligence and demand generation platform. He also held public company CFO roles at: Macrovision (now TiVo), Micromuse, Wind River Systems and Tintri. Halifax has held private company CFO roles at Host Analytics and Grass Valley. In the early part of his career, he held finance positions at Sun Microsystems and KPMG. He also spent time at IBM following its acquisition of Micromuse, and at Intel following its acquisition of Wind River Systems.
Halifax holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of York and an MBA from Henley Management College in the United Kingdom. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant.
Chief Marketing Officer
Subbu Iyer is Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President at Riverbed Technology. Iyer’s responsibilities span corporate marketing and communications, web/digital marketing, strategic and solutions marketing, channel marketing, demand generation and campaigns, and global field marketing.
He joins Riverbed from EMC, where he was Senior Vice President of Global Product Marketing and focused on storage, converged infrastructure, big data and hybrid cloud solutions. Previously, Iyer spent five years at HP Software in a variety of roles, including as a leader in HP’s Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) Business where he oversaw products, go-to-market and operations for a $1B software business. Before HP, he was CMO at OpenClovis (open source high availability and system management), and also held management positions at Oracle, VERITAS Software, and several startups in the software industry.
Iyer holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Lori Spence is Senior Vice President, Human Resources at Riverbed Technology. Spence’s responsibilities include all worldwide HR and operations for employees in 37 countries, including recruiting, human resources business partner activities, benefits and compensation, immigration, HR systems/shared services, and learning development.
Prior to joining Riverbed in 2010, she was VP of Human Resources at BenefitStreet, a privately held SaaS (Software as a Service) company that provided 401(k) recordkeeping and administration services. Spence has more than 25 years of experience in human resources, recruiting, training, organizational development, employee relations, change management and executive development. She has also held various senior human resources positions with Commerce One, Williams-Sonoma, PAPYRUS and Macy’s.
Spence has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.
Chief Information Officer
Sekhar Kancherlapalli is CIO of Riverbed Technology, overseeing all IT functions and operations, and is focused on leading and furthering the company’s cloud and digital initiatives. Kancherlapalli is a software and IT executive with 20+ years of experience in architecture, leadership, development, consulting, and strategic planning. His career has focused on product development and IT management for companies in the high-tech, insurance, financial, and healthcare services industries. Kancherlapalli is adept at developing and communicating strategy/roadmaps, standards, policies, and governance processes with a proven track record of running complex IT projects, providing innovative solutions, and developing business capability aligned strategies.
Prior to joining Riverbed, Kancherlapalli was an Enterprise Cloud Architect at Oracle, where he bridged the gap between business and technology with a deep understanding of applications, industry best practices, business processes, and architectural patterns to drive IT transformation initiatives. At Oracle, he helped support 40+ Fortune 100 companies with a digital / cloud transformation strategy. Previous roles include Chief Enterprise Architect at Unom Group and Vice President of Architecture at Liberty Mutual Insurance, where he led a team of architects for the global organization in 19 countries.
Kancherlapalli holds a Master's Degree in Computer Science from State University of New York at Albany where he also graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science in 1993.
Rebecca Hazard is General Counsel of Riverbed Technology and Corporate Secretary to the Riverbed Board of Directors. Hazard is responsible for all legal matters as well as trade compliance.
Previously, she served as Riverbed’s Vice President and Associate General Counsel, managing a global team of lawyers and legal professionals, responsible for commercial and technology transactions worldwide, including inbound and outbound licensing, channel sales agreements, privacy, outsourcing, OEM, and intellectual property matters. In private practice, Hazard was an attorney at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in the Technology & IP Transactions practice group where she focused on the acquisition, financing and sale of intellectual property and technology-focused businesses, including public and private acquisition and sale and licensing transactions.
Hazard holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College (cum laude) and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
